Napoleon's road monument Alps

Napoleon’s road from Cannes to Grenoble

On the famous Napoleonic road (see “Flight of the Eagle” or 100 days) there is a monument to the Emperor.
It was along it, from Cannes (Côte d’Azur) in the direction of Grenoble, that Bonaparte walked to try to restore his power. Many commanders of government troops sent to suppress his rebellion went over to his side without a fight.
Children’s youth camps of Russian emigration in France have been held in the vicinity for many years now.
The camps of the “Christian Union of Young People” (KhYML or YMCA) and the “National Organization of the Knights”.
Nearby is Lake Lafrey – a favorite recreation area for many French people (see section of the site).
Visiting such memorable places has always been part of the program of military-patriotic education of both French and Russian youth. The lessons of “living history”.
Monument to Napoleon, how to get there
You can get to the monument from the summer children’s camps on foot in about thirty minutes.
For vacationers on the lake, the road takes about ten minutes along the shore of the lake.
There is a bus from Grenoble, but very rarely.
If you are staying at one of the ski resorts in the Alps, then you can visit these places by ordering an excursion along the route you have chosen and including a visit to Lake Lafrey.
The route of the excursion from Nice or Cannes under the program “Napoleon’s Road” also passes by the monument.
The nearest airport and train station is in Grenoble.
