Les Deux-Alpes (Isère) 1600 – 3600 m is one of the best and “fashionable” ski resorts in the Alps*, very popular with tourists from France and all over the world. Located in the heart of the Oisans, not far from Grenoble in the Rhone-Alpes region, the cultural and tourist capital of the Alps, this resort is one of the best, especially in summer. Here, under the hot sun, you can really sunbathe and ski or snowboard at the same time.

The mountain resort of Les Deux Alpes is just that. In winter you can swim in the pool, and in summer you can ski. For those who want to combine the impossible – summer plus winter, summer and winter holidays, Les Deux Alpes is the perfect place. And if we add that just an hour’s taxi ride here is the tourist city of Grenoble with many attractions, then we can safely say that this resort is one of the best in the French Alps.
The resort itself is located at an altitude of 1600 meters, but from it a network of cable cars goes far into the mountains, to the glacier on Mount Mont-de-Lance (3200 -3425 m). During the ascent and from the top, fantastic views of the mountain ranges open up. On a specially equipped snowboarding track resembling an open-top tube, fans of this sport make sharp zigzag turns. This “pipe” is followed by a classic ski slope, which works even in summer.
Check only the digits. Ski resort Les 2 Alpes is 417 hectares of snow cover. The total length of the ski slopes, located at an altitude of 1300 to 3600 m, is 220 km, that is, a total of 89 slopes equipped with 47 lifts.
The Les Deux Alpes ski resort organizes the biggest competitions in the ski world: the famous World Championships in snowboarding and also in alpine skiing. Les Deux Alpes, with its most beautiful complex in Europe, welcomes the most experienced skiers. As for beginners, they are also not deprived of the opportunity to ride here. Many tracks can submit to them. Finally, thanks to the glacier, skiing here is extended until summer.
In summer, cycling and hiking are very popular here. Moreover, there are “stops” along the entire route of the lift, where you can get off and continue cycling or walking. There is also an ice cave Grotte de Glace in these parts, open from 10.00 to 15.00. A teleferic line leads to it.
Tourists are offered various excursions, or rather “expeditions” with a guide, including canyoning and rock climbing, as well as well-established hiking and mountain biking routes.
The resort has swimming pools, an ice skating rink, fitness equipment and gyms.

When the lifts finish working, the resort begins the “Après Ski” time, with a very large number of bars, restaurants and entertainment venues for every taste.

Not far from the resort is the city of Grenoble with many interesting places. WW1- WW2 Forts, World War Two museums and battlefield memorials, ancient bridges and much more. “English-speaking taxi” offers many different day trips from the resort to Grenoble and its environs, through the mountains, to Lake Laffrey along the old Napoleonic road (see Grenoble and environs).
Personal experience, resort reviews
The resort revealed only one and then, controversial, drawback. There are always a lot of people here 🙂 The French have long figured out where the best resort is, so they come here to relax, especially in summer. And all this at reasonable prices (not that sky-high in Courchevel). According to the five-point system, the resort pulls on a solid “five plus”. The tourism office works great, not only friendly, but also professional, they know what everyone needs and offer the best options for spending time ..
